Goals from Dearbhail Kelly and Kayleigh Humphries set up Moorefield for well deserved victory over Westmeath Intermediate champions Killucan on Saturday afternoon.

Killucan opened the scoring within the 1st minute of the game when Fiona Leavy won posession from the throw in and kicked a good point from play. Moorefield responded brilliantly with a goal from Dearbhail Kelly to put them in the lead for the first time, a lead that they never lost for the remainder of the game.

Hannah Quirke kicked Moorefield’s first point in the 5th minute with an excellent point from play followed by a good point from Dearbhail Kelly to put them into 1-01 lead. Fiona Leavy pointed from a free for Killucan and Aoife O’Malley kicked an excellent point from play in the 12th minute to reduce the deficit to two points . Hannah Quirke kicked another good point from play in the 15th minute before Fiona Leavy converted a free in the 18th minute to leave two between the teams once again.

Leanne Curran kicked a superb point in the 19th minute after good work from Amber Masterson and Kate Hannon and Hannah Quirke added her 3rd point of the game in the 20th minute to put Moorefield back into a 1-01 lead.

The next score of the game came five minutes later when corner forward Kayleigh Humphries scored a great goal to put Moorefield into 2-01 lead. Killucan replied with three quick points coming from Fiona Leavy (2) and Aileen Leavy to reduce the deficit to 1-01 but it was Moorefield who finished strongly in the 1st half with two well worked scores from Leanne Curran and Ciara Conaty to leave a half time score of 2-07 to 0-07.

Dearbhail Kelly kicked Moorefield’s first score of the second half when she coverted a free in the 31st minute to put them into a 2-01 lead. Full forward Ruth O’Connor kicked a good point from play for Killucan in the 34th minute after a great ball from Mary Dunne. Kayleigh Humphries was having a great game for Moorefield and she put them into a comfortable lead in the 36th minute when a great ball was played through to her and she beat Aoife Duignan for her second goal.

Killucan kicked the next two scores of the game with points from Ruth O’Connor and Fiona Leavy. Moorefield controlled the game for the closing stages and worked hard to secure some scores, Aisling Curley made a great run from the half back line to knock over a score and Kayleigh Humphries kicked the last score of the game in the 61st minute to leave a final score of 3-10 to 0-10.
