Hard luck to the team and management who lost their final against Two Mile House on Saturday 24th October.
Semi Final
Moorefield welcomed Athy yesterday morning to compete in the Semi-Final of the U13 League. Paddy Gibney did a great job as referee which resulted in a fast flowing game of football with consistent calls applied fairly to both sides.
Both teams competed intensely from the throw-in. Moorefield started well and won a lot of possession putting pressure on Athy in the opening minutes but failed to convert any of their chances. Athy made better use of their early chances and stuck the ball in the back of the net for the games opening score after an excellent pass into their full forward who found the Moorefield defense exposed. Moorefield responded well and continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half resulting in a half time score of Moorefield 1:03, Athy 1:01.
The 2nd half continued with the same levels of intensity and determination from both sides with some great scores and skills on display. The Moorefield girls managed to find another gear and pushed on to win the game comfortably with a final score of Moorefield 5:05, Athy 1:04.
Well done to both sides for a great display and best of luck to the Moorefield girls in the final.

Semi Final
Round 2
Moorefield GAA played host to Athy yesterday morning for their round 2 match of the U13 Division 4 League. Fintan Barrett refereed the game which threw-in at 11am and both teams had 18 players. Substitutions were made throughout the game ensuring all players had significant involvement on the pitch. Weather conditions were generally very good throughout the game with a slight breeze favoring Moorefield in the first half.
The game was played in a very good spirit and
both sides displayed great skill, determination and the work rate off the ball was excellent. Moorefield got a foothold around the middle of the field early in the game and distributed the ball well among the forwards which resulted in a strong lead by half-time. Athy never gave up and came out very determined in the second half winning a lot of breaking ball in the middle and putting pressure on the Moorefield backs. However the Moorefield girls, who were determined not to let their lead slip away from them fought back strongly and went on to win the game well.
It should be noted that this was a very young Athy team and nearly all of their players will compete again next year at U13. I would like to congratulate them on their brave performance and I have no doubt that they will be a team to watch out for in the future.
For U13s all Thursday games will have a default start time of 7pm and all Saturday games with the exception of the finals will have a default start time of 12pm.
Also for U13s all games across all divisions will be played on a slightly smaller pitch, with the largest size juvenile goals on the 13m lines.
