Kildare LGFA  Senior League 2013, Div. 4, Round 1
Moorefield V Rathangan

It was a bitterly cold evening in Moorefield on Tuesday last, 2nd of April when Moorefield took on Rathangan in the first round of the senior ladies league 2013. This division 4 encounter was going to be a marker as to how Rathangan, newly promoted, were going to compete in division 4 but also how Moorefield would have to live up to their expectations and last year’s standards.

Moorefield being on home turf started the game with a burst of enthusiasm netting two goals in the first five minutes. This spurred the home side on and they continued to perform adding score after score to their tally and not giving the ever persistent Rathangan side a chance to get into this game. Half time score was 7-7 to 0-1.

Moorefield made a number of changes at half time introducing Karley Keane, Rowena Hurley-Lynch, Éadaoin Cummins, Anna Loughman and Rachel McNamara for Ciara Conaty, Shauna Doyle, Jodie Moran, Ciara Cusick and Ciara Bruce and they did not disappoint adding and creating numerous scores to Moorefield’s tally.  Rathangan, missing a few key players on the night, never waned and played football right up to the final whistle. Full time score 11-23 to 0-1.

Moorefield: Niamh Doyle, Ciara Cusick, Shauna Doyle, Jodie Moran, Clodagh Cummins (1-0), Shauna Doyle, Laura Hannon (0-2), Amber Masterson (0-2), Sheena O’ Brien (0-1), Emma Curley (1-4), Aisling Curley (0-5), Ciara Conaty (2-4), Aisling Murray (0-4), Ciara Bruce (5-0), Lorraine McSorley (1-0), Rowena Hurley –Lynch (1-1), Karley Keane, Anna Loughman, Rachel McNamara, Éadaoin Cummins.

Senior Ladies Div 4
RHEBAN 2-05
MOOREFIELD 0-17
By Pierce Casey.

Rheban Ladies faced Moorefield tonight in the Div 5 league and a very strong Moorefield performance saw them take the points.
Just before the kickoff both teams lined up and a minutes silence was held in honor of Rhebans Vice President Billy Tierney RIP who sadly passed away last week ,Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

Straight from the throw in Rheban went on the attack and were 1point up from the boot of Alison Shaw with just 10 seconds gone but Moorefield struck back a few minutes later with two well worked points and even at this early stage Moorefields midfield looked very dangerous with several incisive passages of play that cut through the Rheban defense but some wayward shooting in front of goal meant this early good spell failed to convert points onto the scoreboard.
Rheban however went on the attack and a solo run through by Alison Shaw found Colette Germaine free and her great shot found its way into the net despite the efforts of the Moorefield keeper. Two more Moorefield points followed including the score of the game from Moorefields excellent number 6 whose brilliant solo run and shot split the posts.Another two points followed from Moorefield but Rheban hit back with a Geraldine Casey point and a terrific top corner goal from Tracey Perse
.Despite Moorefields great start Rheban were still well in there and Colette Germaine added another point on the 17th minute.
The final ten minutes of the half was to be all Moorefield however with 4 well worked points ,with Moorefields midfield exceptional, coupled with this Rheban were down to 14 following Geraldine Caseys sin binning.Things could have been worse for the homeside but for a super fingertip save by Rhebans keeper Linda Byrne to deny what looked like a certain goal.
Half time Rheban 2-03 ,Moorefield 0-10.

From the restart both teams traded points with Geraldine Casey back on and scoring her second of the game but a great spell of Moorefield pressure yielded a run of 5 points with only Alison Shaws pointed effort in reply.
Rhebans defense battled on with Celina Owens having an exceptional game and her efforts seemed to be infectious as Rheban began to doggedly defend. Moorefield were relentless in attack and several shots on goal were only denied by great goalkeeping by Linda Byrne who was called into action twice in about 3 minutes to keep a clean sheet. One last Moorefield point was followed by an excellent low and hard shot which struck the upright and at the final whistle it was Rheban 2-05 ,Moorefield 0-17
An excellent performance from Moorefield Ladies with 17points a fantastic score in any game ,Well done to them.Rheban Ladies produced some great defending particularly in the second half and battled all the way with best for Rheban :C Owens,Linda Byrne,L Browne.
